How To Get Online Freelance Academic Writing Jobs In Kenya

Choosing to be a freelancer can be an excellent move for your career if you are the kind who does not like being bounded by regular routine and monotonous tasks. Now when you are on your hunt for freelance academic writing jobs online in Pakistan, you will come across several people who will tell you that getting such a job is far from easy and in many cases, next to impossible. But that is not true. If you do it the right way, you can get a freelance job in no time. Here’s how-

1. Make a list of your strengths

Think of the online academic writing jobs you want as a fish that you need to hook with bait. And the talents you possess will serve as bait. For example, if you are particularly good at title creation, you should market that skill when you are looking for a job. Start with making a list of all the skills you possess, and let your clients know you have them when hunting jobs. It’ll do you good if you can show samples that demonstrate your skills.

2. Get a workstation in place to help in the hunting

The process of getting freelance writing jobs is much more different than getting a regular 9 to 5 job. You do not have to visit the office for a physical interview. Instead, most of your interaction with potential clients will be online, and on phone calls, so you need to have workstation ready to deal with this. Things you’ll need include a fully functioning computer, a notepad, a working internet connection and a phone to make calls.

3. Figure your rates out

Before you call up clients and ask them for work, you should be clear on the rates you intend to charge. You will have to determine whether you intend to charge on an hourly basis, per word basis or on the basis of each project. That’s not all, if you are a fresher, you will also have to keep your rates lower as charging a lot may not give rise to any leads. Also, check up on the rates that are being charged by popular freelancers and then fix yours, or you may end up charging way less than you should.

4. Sell yourself

Think of yourself as your own brand where your writing is the product you wish to sell. And what does a brand need for people to get attracted to its product? Good marketing. Advertise your skills on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Get a couple of business cards for yourself and even get a website of your own so that your clients can trust your authenticity and be willing to invest in your brand. You can also ask your relatives and friends to spread the word that you are available for work so that you can get more publicity.

5. Be ready to take up small jobs

If you are just starting out, do not expect yourself to land a high-paying gig that will put you on the map and help you gain overnight stardom in the world of freelancing. Freelancing, unfortunately, does not pan out that way, and all you'll probably get in the starting are small projects that may not even be entirely up your alley. However, take them up instead of turning them down as it will help you in gathering a strong foothold in the industry.

Despite the tips given above, if you still find it difficult to get a freelance academic writing job for yourself, get a mentor. A mentor will be able to guide you and keep you on the right track. Otherwise just follow the tips here and you are good to go.
